Clearing cells can be a drag sometimes. You can also use the Fill Handle to clear the contents of a range of cells by dragging it backwards over the current selection.
Select a range of cells that contain the data you want to clear. Now drag the Fill Handle backwards over the selected cells. You'll notice that the cells turn gray as you drag. Release the mouse button and the cell contents are gone. The neat part about this is that the cell formats are not affected.
