Uses of Recommended charts in Microsoft Excel

In this article, we are going to learn about recommended charts in Excel. What is the use of a recommended chart? Where we can make use of it?

What is the use of recommended chart?

It is the most useful and automatic data analysis functionality in Excel 2013. When you don’t know which chart you should use, you can take advantage of this option in Excel. You just need to select the data and click on recommended chart.

You can find this option: - Insert tab > Charts group >Recommended Charts

How can we use Recommended chart?

To understand the use of Recommended chart, we will take an example.

We have agent’s data with the number of sales detail. Now we want to show the number through graphical image, but we don’t know which chart will be appropriate.

To choose the suitable chart, we can use the Recommended chart. Follow below steps:-

  • Select the data range

  • Go to Insert tab > Under Charts group > Click on Recommended charts
  • Insert Chart dialog box will open, and in the left side of the dialog, you can see three recommended charts

  • Now you can see Excel has recommended for Column and Bar chart which is technically correct because to show the values we also use column or bar chart
  • Click on ok
  • Chart will get inserted in the sheet

Now let’s take another example to understand more about Recommended chart of Excel.

We have Product list with the detail contribution %age in total sales.

Follow below steps:-

  • Select the data range

  • Go to Insert tab > Under Charts group > Click on Recommended charts
  • Insert Chart dialog box will open, and in the left side of the dialog, you can see three recommended charts

  • Now you can see in the above image that recommended chart has changed according to the data
  • Click on Pie chart and Click on OK

Conclusion: - Whenever you are confused in selecting the appropriate chart, take the help of Recommended chart. It will recommend you appropriate chart, for sure.
