Changing the Name of the Cell Comments Author in Excel

Before learning about how to change the author name in the comments box, we have to understand about the comments. What are comments and how we can identify the comments in Excel.

We can use comments in Excel to remind ourselves and inform someone else about what the cell contains. To add comments in a cell, Excel provides the Insert Comment function. After inserting the comment it appears with little red triangles to indicate comments in cells.

To change the author name we have to edit the comment box of the cell. Excel provides the Edit comment Option.

Let’s take an example and understand how we can change the author name for all cell comments in a sheet.

We are having working hour’s calculator sheet in which we have inserted so many comments to remind the time calculations for our self and for other users too.

We want to make changes to the author name of cell comments, we have to use Edit comments' option.

To Edit the cells comments follow below given steps:-

Select the cell E11 in which comment inserted.
Right click with the mouse.
A popup will appear, from the list, select Edit Comment.

You can edit in the comment box and can change the author name.
In this comment author name is Excel Tip, now we want to change the author name to Excel Tip Master instead of Excel Tip.

Simply clear the previous author name “Excel tip” by pressing the Backspace key on your keyboard and write a new author name“Excel Tip Master “ at the place of author name.

We can change the author’s name of every comment in a sheet you can even write different author names in a worksheet.

Let’s understand how to change the author name in another cell comment in a worksheet.

Select the cell D13 in which comment is inserted.
Right click with the mouse.
A popup will appear, from the list, select Edit Comment.
You can edit in the comment box and can change the author name.
In this comment author name is Excel Tip, now we want to change the author name Excel Tip Master 1 instead of Excel Tip.

This is the way you can change the author name in a cell comment.

A question re' your advice
To change the name of the Comments author:
1. Select File -> Excel Options -> Personalize.
2. In User name text box, change the user name.

My Q where do i select file?? I use windows 7
Ideally I'd like to show no default user name in the excel comment box.
