Add the Style icon to the Formatting toolbar.
Create styles directly from cells
After you format a cell, you can quickly and easily save that format as a style by entering the name of the style in the Style box and then pressing Enter.
Note
After you have added the Style icon to the toolbar, using the Alt+' shortcut lets you select the Style in the icon itself. It does not open the Style dialog box. Screenshot // Create styles directly from cells in Microsoft Excel

"Hi Dave,
Good idea. I am going to do the same thing, except that I wil use my personal.xls file.
If you don't already use one of those, you might want to read up to see if that will enhance your idea.
Thanks for the tip,
Alan."
"After reading the rest of the tips I found where it tells you how to merge styels from another workbook.
What I've done is create a workbook named ""Styles"" and have created all the styels I want to use. Now it is simply a matter of opening that workbook and mergeing it into the one I'm working on to make the styles available in the new workbook."
the styles that i add to the styles box do not save. when i open a new workbook they are not there - how do i make them permanent?
