How to create column chart in Microsoft Excel

There are so many graphs in Excel in which one of the Column graph. Column graph is used to visually to compare values across a few categories when the chart shows duration or the category text is long.

Column Chart contains 6 types of Column charts. Clustered Column, Stacked Column, 100% stacked Column, 3-D Clustered Column, 3-D Stacked Column, 3-D 100% stacked Column.

Let’s take an example and understand how we can use the Column chart in excel.

We have month wise achievement data. In which, column A contains Month Name and column B contains Achievement.

Let’s see how this is achieved.  To create the Column chart follow below mentioned steps:-

  • Select the data range A1:B13.
  • Go to “Insert” menu on the ribbon, in the  “Charts” group click on “Clustered Column”.

  • After inserting the Clustered Column in Excel format 2 contextual tabs will get active. Where you can format and design the chart to make the presentable.

  • Go to the Design contextual tab, and choose any chart from the Chart Styles group.

  • Click on Add Chart Element, drop down list will appear.
  • From the drop down menu click on Data Labels.
  • After clicking on Data labels again drop down will get appear click on center.

  • To add the chart title double click on the title.
  • Rename the text as per the requirement or you can delete it.

This is the way we can create the column chart in Microsoft Excel.
