Keyboard shortcut to insert Current Date / Current Time

Today, Microsoft Excel has become a very important part of corporate life.. If you know about the keyboard shortcuts for using the Microsoft Excel, it will be an advantage and  will save much of your time.

In this article, you’ll learn how to insert current date and time by using the keyboard shortcut in Microsoft Excel.

There are 2 ways to enter the current date and current time in Microsoft Excel.

  • Keyboard shortcut
  • Functions

Current Date through Keyboard shortcut

Follow below given steps:-

  • Select any cell
  • Press Ctrl+; on your keyboard
  • Press Enter

Current Date by using Today function

Follow below given steps:-

  • Enter the function in cell C7
  • =TODAY()
  • Press Enter

Note: - The difference between keyboard shortcut and Today    function is that today function will change the date every day, but the date which we have entered through keyboard shortcut will never change.

Current time through Keyboard shortcut

Follow below given steps:-

  • Select any cell
  • Press Ctrl+Shift+; on your keyboard
  • Press Enter

Current time through Now function

Follow below given steps:-

  • Enter the function in cell C9
  • ==MOD(NOW(),1)
  • Press Enter
  • Format cell as hh:mm

In this way, we can use keyboard shortcut to insert the current date and current time in Microsoft Excel.
