Convert Number to Words in Indian Currency Format in Excel 2010

In this article, we will learn on how to convert number to words in Indian currency format in excel

If you have data consisting of amounts which are formatted to show in dollars ($) and you would like to show it in the Indian Rupee format, the steps below will help you.

    • Select the cells &right click on the mouse.

    • Click on Format Cells orPress Ctrl+1 on the keyboard to open the Format Cells dialog box.

    • Select the Number tab, and from Category, select Currency.

    • Click on the Symbol Drop Down Menu.

  • Select English (India) as the Currency symbol. This is how the result looks in cell A1

You can also use the Custom Formatting option to convert numbers to Words in the Indian Currency Format.

Steps for Custom Formatting:

  • To go to Format Cells, press Ctrl + 1 shortcut key on the keyboard.
  • Select the Number tab, and from Category select Custom.
  • In the Type box, enter the Custom Formatting syntax which is ? #.
  • Click on Ok.

We have entered “100” in a cell. After applying the Custom Formatting syntax as explained above, we get the output as shown -
